He consults local crime boss Brother Bao to get the money for the airfare, but Bao\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s henchmen want to get a cut of the job Kai has been given, and give chase to Kai and Susie, a bookstore worker.<\/p>\n<p>Thus begins a crime farce that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s essentially Taiwan\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s equivalent of <em>Date Night<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Au Revoir, Taipei<\/em> is a consistently funny film that never takes itself too seriously. There is no point at which the characters pull over and have a heartfelt talk about the state of their relationship (\u00e2\u20ac\u0153you never give me a chance to help out!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d). Instead you have dancing exercises and nice night food market scenes.<\/p>\n<p>There\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not much more to it than that: there are perhaps more subplots than one might expect, but it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s light and fun and entertaining. The ending is a great scene, too. If you judge a movie on \u00e2\u20ac\u0153feeling\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, then \u00e2\u20ac\u0153happiness\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is the result of watching <em>Au Revoir, Taipei<\/em>. Plus it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s executive produced by Wim Wenders, of all people.<\/p>\n<p>It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s nice to have some fluff amongst all of the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153worthy\u00e2\u20ac\u009d films you get in a film festival.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At last, a truly light movie in the Sydney Film Festival!
