Honey and Clover – episode seventeen

It’s Christmas again! It’s like magic, the way Honey & Clover gets away with three Christmas episodes in the space of seventeen episodes.
On the non-festive front, this is an excellent Takemoto story: a relaxation from Yamada and Mayama that comes just in time.

I love this series. There is too much about Honey & Clover that is simply intangible, like the feeling that I got when Yamada had her big realisation, and the tension between Hagu-chan and Takemoto.
The Fujiwara Brothers, Mario and Luigi (seriously, one wears red and the other green), have a falling out, so Mayama is sent to work in another office. He does not tell Yamada.
Meanwhile, Takemoto is working on his graduation piece and Shuu-chan helps behind the scenes.

Talk about a second wind! Honey & Clover never stopped being good, but now it’s a supreme being!

Damnit, now I care about the Yamada and Mayama relationship again.

I’m going to be honest: I’m not particularly sympathetic to Yamada’s unrequited love. I realised as I was watching this episode that, while I really care about everything else that’s going on in this show, I think that it’s written in such a way that Mayama’s obtuseness plays too well to Yamada’s obstinacy, making them never have to do anything.

The triumphant return of Shuu-chan! Back early from his trip to Mongolia, Hanamoto comes bearing gifts. Unfortunately, he posted the letter alerting the others of his return just before he left, so it arrived just as he did.
Honey and Clover – episode ten

The official stance in this episode is that the group of five has been together for two years now. It’s a nice episode with a good montage of Hagu-chan to put things in perspective, as well as showing the more depressive side of Morita.
Honey and Clover – episode nine

Easily the funniest episode of Honey & Clover so far. The first was funny, but by now we know all of these characters well enough to have a glorious festival of celebration.
