Black Lagoon – episode 9

I wrote in my notes “this is clearly the best show ever to be on television”. I was being more hyperbolic than sarcastic, as Black Lagoon packs so much sheer entertainment value that I’m surprised I didn’t simply explode from all of it while watching this on the train.
When I mentioned a couple of weeks back “two types of killers”, I failed to mention the type that is embodied by Roberta: “attack robot from the future”. The coldness of Revy was motivated by some sort of visible anger, but Roberta gives the audience her icy determination to complete her mission.

Looks like our friends at the Lagoon Company are going to be dealing in multiple episode stories from now on.

Polish jokes and Catholic jokes! Nuns selling guns! Fights in the marketplace! Black Lagoon has it all and more!

There’s a line between berserk violence and cold violence. When you go berserk, your general aura is one that can only be transcribed as “GYAAAHEERRRRGHHHHAAAAHHH!” (or, depending on who you ask, “KANEDAAAAAAAA!”). The cold route, on the other hand, involves eyeing people, then indiscriminately killing them. Of these two paths, Revy takes the latter. She is infinitely scarier for it.
Kind of a spoiler inside

Revy is not a whore, and if you treat her as such you can be damned sure that’s the last treatment you’re ever going to perform.
Another fine episode, but we’re not done with the Neo Nazis yet.

Nazis, old and new! Plunder the old, destroy the new! That’s my motto.

This episode displays many kinds of sadism, and it berates itself for doing so. The world of pirates is a world that is far dirtier outside of the context of the Black Lagoon crew.

I can’t really pretend I’m not watching this, and won’t until Geneon says “Hey buddy, we’re releasing this in the US”.
So basically Rock comes up with a brilliant plan to face off against the helicopter that guns at them. Then he tells his boss exactly what can be done with his job! (I, personally, would not want to go back to work after my employer hired an assassin to deal with me)

Brought to you by Geneon, which means that it won’t be brought to me unless I choose to buy or rent the DVDs. Black Lagoon is pure modern-day pirate action anime. It’s a little rough around the edges in its production, but it is also pretty cool.
