Girls’ High – episode 2

“Physical examination is the scent of a maiden’s shyness”

To quote Steve Carell: “wow, this is graphic”.

The girls go for their physical exams; apparently the school is run by perverts.

I watched this because I wanted a brief period wherein I didn’t have to think. I didn’t quite escape the world for 23 minutes, as I was haunted by thoughts of just how stupid this is. To watch Girls’ High is to feel like an ultimate pervert; it is to feel sorry for the poor, exploited seiyuu; it is to wonder at how contrived modern fan service is; it is the death of the soul of some sort of small, innocent mammal.

Mild amusement was provided in the form of Ayano’s insanity, but the lesbian jokes were decidedly weak. Girls’ High: minus ten billion points for making a joke about the Konami Code burn in flames.

All of that said I will keep this program in reserve for times of brainlessness, and I will rest assured that upon this program’s release in the US that it will do precisely nothing to contribute to the industry or its image.

  1. The cast is so stellar that you have to wonder why they accepted these roles?? Poor innocent Noto Mamiko is now a deluded megane hentai.

It’s hard to stomach Nobue and Mikoto’s voice saying, “Ouch my nipples are rubbing against my cape!”

  2. This is hardly unique. I don’t quite understand it, but it’s quite common for seiyuu we think very highly of to appear in titles we’d think are very questionable.

Either it’s a case of “A job is a job”, or else it’s a case of “You gotta take what’s offered or risk being blacklisted”. I’m not sure which. But I know that Koyasu has appeared in yaoi titles, and I was completely and totally scandalized when I realized that the seiyuu who did the voice of Saga Bergman in “Sugar” also did the voice of Hakufu in “Ikki Tousen”.

  3. It’s emotional blackmail, partly; seiyuu build fans and the fans follow them wherever they go. Some people are watching Air Gear right now because of Tanaka Rie and nothing else.
