You get licencing!
August 6, 2006 on 4:47 am | In Anime News | 5 CommentsFunimation have licenced School Rumble, although one may ask what took so long. It will be great to see people getting it confused with “Rumbling Hearts”.
Someone, possibly ADV, has in all likelihood licenced The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. Can the obsession strike twice? Already the ADV hate has kicked into high gear, which gave me another idea about the status of fandom which I won’t go into here. Kadokawa has said that there have been offers.
Most “important” is the announcement that Utawarerumono has been licenced by ADV. With the name “Shadow Warrior Chronicles”. They may as well have called it “GENERIC TITLE!” if they were going down that path. It means that I won’t be covering it any more, which isn’t a big hassle to me as it was just a bunch of moe anyway.
More licencing comments as I see them.
Update: I was hoping I could get around my phrasing. The Suzumiya news was just a rumour, and I didn’t confirm it in what I said, but … “in all likelihood”? Oh dear. The panels have come and gone with only the news from Kadokawa that several countries have made expressions of interest.

School Rumble license is fantastic news to me, actually.

“which isn’t a big hassle to me as it was just a bunch of moe anyway.”
And that is why you blogged 17 episodes of that moe! Nothing like sarcasm I always say.
So School Rumble and Utawarerumono will finally make it to the English speaking market. My top three shows of the spring season (the two above along with Black Lagoon) have now all been licensed. Good news indeed. Still, why did they have to change Utawarerumono to a stupid name like “Shadow Warrior Chronicles”?! They must get a real kick out of annoying fans like that.

I guess the name change really can’t be helped. I have friends who like the show and still can’t say “utawarerumono”. It’s like a tongue twister to them.
Still, ADV…..

Mohammad: Utawarerumono was a show of super-varying quality! When I heard the licencing announcement I latched onto the most dubious aspect of the show.
I understand the need to change Utawarerumono and Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, but I think that they could choose less stupid names. I think that “Rumbling Hearts” was at the request of the Japanese company, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the same held true of Utawarerumono.
I just can’t wait until we get a show out in the west – I don’t know, Honey & Clover, maybe – and they rename it “Ninja Harem”. Then the world will be complete.

Man, I attended the Funi panel when they announced School Rumble in their line-up. I was simply estatic that they included S1, S2, and the OVA. The applause and whistles were well deserved.
I don’t truly care for Utawarerumono so it’s not a big deal for me. Although I have to say, the dudes from the ADV panel are seriously annoying (at least, from the second announcement). I don’t know if it’s just me…
BTW, Geneon’s awesome.
