Honey and Clover – episode 24
October 13, 2005 on 10:49 pm | In Honey and Clover | 3 Comments“… I’m here”
I’m not sure that I could have been more satisfied with this ending. So much was so right; this series was an excellent way to spend six months. This episode featured many profound images and a purely fitting conclusion; that’s right, conclusion.
If you’ve made any head way into Honey & Clover, don’t come here …

Monster – episode 63
October 12, 2005 on 11:12 am | In Monster | Comments Off on Monster – episode 63“An Irrelevant Homicide”
You may have noticed that this is my first entry for the Monster series. This is going to make the work much harder for me. While I work something out, I recommend visiting Memento for backstory detail.

Ahoy thar!

Monster 63, Tide-Line Blue 11, Sugar, Howl’s Moving Castle and Abenobashi should all be winging their ways to you soon!
Oh yeah, Appleseed too. I also owe you Haibane Renmei.
I’m just that dedicated.
Angel Heart – episode 1 (raw)
October 5, 2005 on 6:53 pm | In Angel Heart | Comments Off on Angel Heart – episode 1 (raw)So hungry was I for Angel Heart that I obtained it raw. If I hadn’t known the story’s premise, I might have had more trouble: but, armed with what I know, I was able to interpret what was going on almost exclusively through Hirano Toshiki’s excellent direction. This first episode, at least, is close to cinematic in its presentation.
The entire original voice cast of City Hunter returns, and all I can say is yes: the trousers of time work.
Warning: I really am not sure how suitable it is for people who are just about to get into City Hunter to read this.

Tide-Line Blue – episode 10
October 5, 2005 on 3:24 pm | In Tide-Line Blue | Comments Off on Tide-Line Blue – episode 10“Separation”
I seem to have been saying that this series has only been half good – but looking through previous writings, I have only taken issue with 30% of the episodes (ie three of them), and they were all more than passable. Of those, I have only been angered by one episode (ie episode four).
Tide-Line Blue, by playing the percentages, has been quite good overall. This episode is the calm before the storm and boasts some more of the characterisation that I like so much.

Honey and Clover – episode twenty-three
October 3, 2005 on 1:18 am | In Honey and Clover | Comments Off on Honey and Clover – episode twenty-three“And once again, I begin to run.”
Why do I bother writing up this program? Every episode I say “beautiful composition, I love this, the characters … blah blah blahâ€. Series that are so uniformly excellent as Honey & Clover has proven to be are very difficult indeed.

Tide-Line Blue – episode 9
October 2, 2005 on 9:01 pm | In Tide-Line Blue | Comments Off on Tide-Line Blue – episode 9“The globe – the new map”
Ostrich angst doesn’t work quite as well in this episode. The rest of this show is really firing on all cylinders, now, so that damned bird is forgiven. It’s a large mercy that the last few episodes of this series have been so good, because there are only three episodes left!

Honey and Clover – episode twenty-two
September 30, 2005 on 3:44 pm | In Honey and Clover | 1 Comment“When I got out of the tunnel, the view was beautiful.”
After a week of watching some of Japan’s less inspired material, I’m reminded how truly great Honey & Clover is. With only one shot of Morita and Mayama presented as an abstract concept, this episode belongs to the spheres of Takemoto, Yamada and Hagu.

Back in the State
September 29, 2005 on 7:05 pm | In Site News | Comments Off on Back in the StateI have returned from my holiday, learning one important thing: don’t attempt to work on holiday.
I’ve got to catch up on Honey and Clover 22 and 23, Tide-Line Blue whatever number it’s up to, and write like a million reviews. I’m up to date on Monster, so I’ll see if I can prepare a special on that, but with 62 episodes under my belt it’s going to be hard.
I’ve reached that point where, once again, I’ve got far too many writing projects underway, not just here but in several other realms.
In other news, I don’t really like the convention scene and I saw Serenity today. It made me feel. I almost cried. Damn you, Joss Whedon. Damn you.
Live
September 24, 2005 on 10:51 am | In Site News | Comments Off on LiveI spent a month caught in a hopeless bleak despair. Anime Pilgrimage DX is not quite up to speed – I need to figure out how to get the templates in working order and such, as well as making all of the categories live – but it needed to be online.
I’m in Melbourne until Wednesday, which means no fansubs. However, I’ve got drafts of Abenobashi, Sugar and Howl’s Moving Castle just waiting to be published.
Therefore, you can rest assured in the knowledge that there will, in good time, be something to read.
