You know what’s great? Vindication. I’d say that I felt that during this entire episode of Nana, but I’d be lying as I was spending too much of my time trying to stifle my laughter. Nana was my pick for favourite of the season way back when and, were Ouran High School Host Club so effing awesome it would win hands down. Actually, now that I’ve thought on this issue more, maybe Nana wins after all.

Better, warmer. I’m not sure if that’s because I knew it wouldn’t be Nana and Nana antics, or simply because Pink Nana didn’t do so much bouncing off the walls. I’m going for the idea that the Pink Nana on display here is slightly more mature than the Pink Nana who began community college.

Nana abandons any sense of plot advancement so that it may tell the origin story of Pink Nana. I’ve consulted one of my friends who is versed in the manga, and she calls Pink Nana “Stupid Nana”; I’m kind of inclined to agree.
While this episode is okay, I would have preferred some time to see Pink and Black Nana together. Unfortunately, the past of Pink Nana is going to be the focus of the next episode as well! There is no escape from this vicious cycle of the past!

As an anime fan, it is my solemn duty to ignore demographics and watch whatever the heck I feel like. Nana is the third Yazawa Ai property I have come to watch, and at last I can understand the complaints about the Paradise Kiss aesthetic. Yazawa Ai has a distinct style that has been animated with aplomb in the forms of Gokinjo Monogatari and now in Nana, the tale of two Nana.
